DONALD “DON” BAYDACK

Don passed away peacefully in Edmonton, Alberta on December 16, 2023, at the age of 75 after succumbing to the degenerative effects of frontotemperal dementia. He is survived by his wife, Gerri Tabak, and daughter, Micki (Lucas)
as well as his siblings, Rick, Len, and Donna along with their families.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Don was educated at the University of Manitoba where he achieved his Bachelor and Masters’ degrees in Civil Engineering. Shortly after graduating, he joined his brother Len running a small engineering firm (Norenco), that was involved in municipal engineering infrastructure projects located primarily in Manitoba and later in Alberta but eventually expanded to include international projects in Africa and the Caribbean.

Don enjoyed adventures, especially travel. He loved working on international projects because, as a Project Manager, he was able to interface with the local stakeholders, provide consulting advice on their technical engineering problems and bring their project vision to fruition. These projects were often months in duration, but this time provided him with an opportunity to connect with the locals and gain a deeper insight into their culture, environment, and the people as individuals.

This interest in learning about different cultures led to a keen interest in travel, both for business and pleasure, often with Gerri and Micki accompanying him on many far-flung trips to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South America…every continent except Antarctica! He relished adventures like traipsing into the Sahara Desert, exploring the Pyramids of Giza, camel riding and hiking with Micki in Petra and observing penguins in their natural environment in Patagonia, just to name a few of these adventures!

But Don also loved the water…being near it seemed to recharge him. Many good times were had in his early years at the family cottage at Falcon Lake Manitoba where he spent hours fishing, swimming and just “kicking back” on the dock with family and a can or two of beer! Visits to the cottage subsided
considerably with eventual moves to Alberta and the Pacific Northwest in the US, but he was able to teach Micki how to fish, a skill he was proud to pass on to her and an activity she enjoyed.

Don will be missed fondly by Gerri (wife), Micki (daughter) and Lucas (fiancé), along with his siblings. As per his wishes, his ashes will be scattered in Manitoba at a later date in a private celebration of his life.

Pearl Stella Stefanyk (nee Clark)

January 5, 1928 – February 3, 2023

On Friday, February 3, 2023 Pearl passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years at the Kipnes Centre for Veterans, following a short illness.

Survived by her two children; Marilyn (Rick) and Wendy; three grandchildren, Jamie (Cathy), Darcy and Justin; great granddaughter, Elizabeth; and her brother, Ed.

Pearl was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Anna Clark; husband, Henry “Hank” Stefanyk; brother, Donald Clarke; and son in-laws, Larry and Ernie.

Pearl was born in St. Paul, Alberta, and was raised on the family farm in Waskatenau, Alberta. She attended Mission Hill School in Hollow Lake. Later left the farm and moved to Edmonton to find full time employment. Several years later she met the love of her life and they were married but sadly it was for only a few short years as he passed away in 1972. She never remarried as she always said she would never find anyone as good as Hank was.

She was a hard worker and worked full time throughout her life at many jobs, and retired from Canada West Insurance at the age of 65.

She loved watching hockey (attended Justin’s games for many years cheering him and the team on) and was always rooting for the Oilers (and would comment that they better pull up their socks if they were losing). She enjoyed listening to Country Music, she would sing along, and loved dancing while she was still able to. She had the talent to draw free hand, and was very good at it. She tried all different kinds of hobbies over the years. She played cards with family and friends until her hands could no longer hold the cards.

She had many friends near and far. She was very social and always on the go. She would go for coffee with three different groups every day while she was healthy and still drove. She made friends wherever she went, and always kept in touch with everyone. She was always well put together, getting her hair and nails done, right up to her passing.

She was a very strong willed woman her entire life, and now she is at peace and is without pain. She will be forever in our hearts.

Special thanks to her incredible doctor, Dr. David Fields, and the staff at Kipnes Centre.

Also, to Rebecca at Fountain Garden Funeral Chapel, thank you for everything you do.

There will be no service as per her wishes. Cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest with her late husband at a later date.

Deb was survived by sisters, Linda (Mel) Warner and Sharon Belitsky; brother, Jeff (Krystal) Belitsky; nieces, Hillary (Kevin) Yaremchuck and Katie Belitsky; nephews, Dana Belitsky and David Seibert; and great nephew, Jackson Hunt- Seibert.

Deb was born in small town Canora, Saskatchewan, the first child of Murray & Kay Belitsky. She lived on the farm for a short time before moving to Edmonton, Alberta where she lived her entire life. Deb spent several years with Henry Singer Clothing and recently retired from EPCOR Water Services. She enjoyed travel, especially her many trips to to Puerto Vallarta with family.
