July 5, 1923 – May 20, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Luigi Pietro Monai on May 20, 2019 at the age of 95 years. Luigi was born in Nimis, Udine, Italy on July 5, 1923. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Anita; his children, Silvia (Franco), Gianni, Caterina (Kelly), Gastone (Rose), Maria Rosa (Salvatore), and Arrigo (Ellen); as well as family in Italy, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.

Luigi is gone from this world, but his spirit will live with us forever.

It is with great sadness the family of Sharon Mabel Ross (nee Kennedy) announce her passing on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in Edmonton, Alberta at the age of 77 years. She will be forever remembered by her husband, Patrick Ross; children, D’Arcy Leanne (Jacobus) Calvelage, and Michael Patrick (Janine) Ross; grandchildren, Christopher (Victoria) Calvelage, Meaghan Calvelage, Kelsey Laurel (Mark) Solis, and Dexter Colin Ross; great grandchildren, Kaiden Calvelage, Aubrey Calvelage, and McKenzie Calvelage; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Sharon was predeceased by her daughter, Deborah Anne Kennedy; her mother, Mabel Brooks, father, Colin Kennedy and step mother, Ruth Chambers.

1972 – 2019

On Thursday April 18, 2019 David Chorney, aged 46, passed away after an aggressive battle with Parkinsons Plus. He leaves behind Stephanie, his wife of 21 years, and his two daughters that meant the world to him, Rebecca (age 17) and Alyssa ( age 14). His love of Star Wars will continue with them. He is also survived by his dad Desmond, his mom Gloria, his sister Michelle, his niece Carly (Jared), lots of aunts, uncles and cousins. He will also be missed by his wife’s family; father in law Louis, mother in law Connie, sister in law Christina (Murray), sister in law Nicole (Zen), brother in law David (Cora), nephew Jason, nephew Christopher, nephew Carter and niece Sarah. He is preceded by all of his grandparents.

Special mention should go to all of his friends and his co-workers at the City of Edmonton Ferrier garage. We also appreciate all the support we have received from Health Services especially his home care workers.

March 27, 1932 – April 22, 2019

Our Dad passed away peacefully on April 22, 2019, a life well lived as a father, grandfather, uncle and good friend. Jack was an optimist with a captivating smile and a highly memorable laugh. He embraced life and those who shared it with him. Always up on current events, he loved to engage in good conversations with those that were lucky enough to have made his acquaintance. And no matter the person, Jack made them feel special after meeting him.

Jack was born in Kenora, Ontario the youngest of the three Manson brothers. Growing up with his family in Kenora and Fort William he developed a passion for the outdoors. In his youth he was proud of his paper route, loved the game of hockey, playing center for a number of teams and later raced stock cars as “Mad Man Manson”. Starting as a telegrapher in 1951, he had a highly successful career with CP Rail that spanned more than 38 years. After many promotions that resulted in transfers in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Jack retired from the railroad in 1989 as General Superintendent of Grain Transportation. Over his career he was a respected and skilled leader sought out for his sage advice. After retirement he briefly consulted internationally in China and Kazakhstan. Jack was married to Maureen Douglas in 1956 and together they raised a family over the many places they lived including Thunder Bay (Fort William), Kenora, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Winnipeg. After Maureen’s untimely death in 1998 he was lucky to find love again, and married Corinne (Taylor) in 2000. Jack and Corrine resided in Winnipeg and spent many happy years with family and friends at their two happy places: Lake of Two Mountains and Puerto Vallarta Mexico. Throughout his entire life Jack enjoyed the log cabin his grandfather built and the camp he subsequently built at Lake of Two Mountains. In his 87 years he never missed a summer at his lake! His legacy to his family is the cottage and wonderful memories created over five generations. As evidenced of his love of the outdoors he spent many wonderful times with his lifelong friend Bert Johnson enjoying fishing, hunting and camping trips – especially the canoe trips to White Otter Lake. In his later life he was able to live out one of his lifelong dream and that was to farm. Facilitated through Corrine’s brother and sister in-law, Ted and Sharon, he was proud to become a cattle baron, owning a herd that peaked at four head. This gave him endless hours of joy and conversation.

Our family expresses our sincere gratitude to all of the care givers over the last several years who have cared for Jack both in Winnipeg and Edmonton. Special thanks to the staff and Dr. Leon at the Sturgeon Hospital for their care and compassion during his final days.

Jack is survived by his son, Scott (Myrna); daughter, Carol; step-daughter, Leslie (David); grandchildren, Meghan (Doug), Erin, Rhiannon (Jonathan), Caitlin, Andrew, Carter; brother, Hugh Manson; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by the loves of his life Maureen (nee Douglas) and Corinne (nee Taylor); his parents, John R. and Felicie (nee Bavery) Manson; brother, George; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, and Margret.

At Jack’s request no service will be held at this time.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In Loving Memory of Elva Gavigan, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and friend. With heavy hearts the family of Elva announces her passing on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the age of 86 years. Following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia. Elva will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Edwin (Linda) Gavigan, Bill Gavigan, Robert Gavigan; daughter, Sharon Gavigan; grandchildren, Stacey (Chris), John (Colleen), Christopher (Roberta), Jason (Char Mei), Jonathon (Lindsay), Dillon, Taylor, and Alaina; 10 great grandchildren; special nephew, James Willow; lifelong pen pal, Patsy Cook; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Elva was predeceased by her parents, Clarence & Alva (nee Connor) Willows; her son, Alan Gavigan; daughter, Virginia Deagle; brother, George Willows; sister in laws, Irene Willows and Betty Gavigan.

Elva was born May 4, 1932 in Plato, Saskatchewan to Clarence and Alva Willows. She was raised on the farm and attended school in Dorintosh, Saskatchewan until she was 16 years old, then moved to London, Ontario with her mother. While working at Kellogg’s making cereal she met and married her husband. They lived in Canada and the USA until they finally settled for good in Edmonton in 1965. Elva retired from Northlands in 1997, and gave retirement life a try on Vancouver Island, before returning to Edmonton to spend more time with her grandchildren. Elva’s greatest interests were her grandchildren, gardening and canning, doing cross-stitch, crocheting and knitting.

Torben “Ken” Kenneth Hansen passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 11, 2019 at age 75 years. Ken was born May 13, 1943 in Faaborg, Denmark to Ella Rasmine (nee Jorgensen) and Niels Emil Hansen. He will be greatly missed and is survived by his children, Krystal (Jeff) Belitsky and Jason (Alana Deren) Hansen; his grandchildren, Hannah Deren, David (Ashia Hunt-Mundy) Seibert, Rachel Deren, Ethan Hansen, Katherine Belitsky, and Ben Hansen; great grandson, Jackson Hunt-Seibert; siblings, Birthe Kristensen, Connie Jones, Erling (Ilsi) Hansen, and Arne (Shirle) Hansen; numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Emil and Ella Hansen; brother-in-law, Jorgen Kristensen; sister-in-law, Karen Hansen; brother Svend Hansen; and brother-in-law, Cam Jones.

May 16, 1926 – January 16, 2019

Arthur Albert Foulston passed away on Wednesday January 16, 2019 at the age of 92 years. The fifth of ten children born to Albert and Grace Foulston, growing up in Lilac, Saskatchewan. Art is survived by his sister Gladys, his six children and their respective families.

Art moved to Alberta in his twenties, eventually settling down in High Prairie, Alberta and was active in both the Banana Belt and Triangle Communities. Art engaged in many occupations, such as local milk man, trucking gravel, construction, working for the local school division, managing various apartment buildings and ultimately a local farmer. Art loved wide open spaces, blue skies, his hay fields and later in life his bunk house with wood burning stove.

Art loved horses, music, singing, playing his guitar, dancing, playing horseshoes and playing badminton. Art regularly went on trail rides with his team, where he would entertain the group by singing and playing his guitar around the camp fire. Art was always up for a good community dance, where he was often gazed at in awe of his skill. This also transferred to playing badminton, winning many tournaments, often being the eldest entrant by far.

At the age of 86, Art sadly had to leave his beloved farm and moved in with his youngest daughter in Edmonton, Alberta who has been his primary caregiver for the last seven years. During those years, Art required the support of elder care facilities. Art’s daughters, June and Jessica, would like to thank the care staff of Garneau Hall for four years of care, as well as the care staff at Capital Care Lynnwood during Art’s last year. His daughters would also like to thank the other residents and their families who had become an extended family to Art.

Following Art’s wishes, no service will be held, and his daughters intend to spread his ashes in the countryside he loved where horses will forever run. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada would be appreciated. Art’s daughters would also like to request that you all spend quality time with your own loved ones and verbalize your love for them as often as you can.

It is with heavy hearts we announce that Edgar Charles Hauger, “Ed,” age 74 years, of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at the Edmonton General Hospital.

Ed will be forever remembered by his sons, Craig and Travis; daughter in law, Mandy; grandchildren, Cara, Kayla, Colten, Jalene, Rylee, Jessy and Easton; great grandsons, Bentley and Declan; step-mother, Sally Scobie; step-sisters, Gayle, Linda, and Karen; cousin and “brother he never had” Harold (Ginny) Burgess; good friend and cousin, Eleanor Olsen; as well as many more family members and friends.

Edgar was predeceased by his father, Lyman Hauger; mother, Irma Hoover; and step-father, John “Jack” Scobie.

Edgar was born in Dawson Creek, Bc. He suffered the tragic loss of his father, Lyman Hauger, at the age of two. In 1957, when Edgar was 13 years old, his mother, Irma Mary Hoover, married John “Jack” Scobie of Telfordville, Alberta. One year later, in December of 1958, Irma passed away, leaving Edgar to be raised by his stepfather, Jack Scobie, and later his stepmother, Sally.

Edgar made a living by being a long-distance truck driver. In his later years, Edgar suffered badly from Multiple Sclerosis. He spent much of his time at “The Drake” drinking Coke and listening to live bands. Edgar loved being a grandfather. He was especially a hit when he drove his scooter right onto the court at his granddaughter’s volleyball game. Edgar will be forever remembered for the twinkle in his pretty blue eyes and his impish, mischievous grin.

Metro James Kostrub of Edmonton, Alberta passed away December 24, 2018 at the age of 83 years. Metro is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley; two daughters, Brenda (Kevin), Beverly (Shayne); six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one sister, Sophie; two brothers, Percy and Walter (Irene); as well as many nieces, nephews, numerous extended family and friends.

Metro was predeceased by his parents, John and Pearl; six brothers, Mike, Bill, George, Ted, Andrew, and Johnny; two sisters, Dora and Helen.

Metro wishes were not to have a funeral, and to be remembered as he was.
