April 22, 1990 – April 12, 2026

Riley William Brunin-Bremner passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, ten days before his 36th birthday.

Riley was loving, generous, intelligent, and full of humour. He had a way of making people laugh and feel cared for, and he truly noticed the little things that made others feel special. He was deeply loved by his family, his partner, and all who knew him, and he will be missed beyond words.

Over the past five months, he was committed to his sobriety, attending meetings, working the steps, and giving back through service with his home group. He was proud of that journey, and so are we.

Riley was born in McLennan, Alberta, and spent much of his life in Slave Lake, Edmonton, and Grande Prairie. His early years were marked by significant challenges, and at the age of eight he came to live with his Aunty, Roberta Brunin, who became a constant source of love, stability, and support throughout his life.

Riley is lovingly remembered by his Aunty/Mom, Roberta Brunin; his sisters, Christine Reade Bremner, Samantha (Joey Biamonte) Bremner, and Mik-el Brunin; his brother, Donavan Reade Bremner; nephew, Tristian Cunningham; his girlfriend, Kaylyn Dawn Grandbois; his father, William Brunin; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Riley had a special relationship with his nephew, Adam Toutah, and niece, Mikeala Reade. He was predeceased by his mother, Adra Bremner.

Riley worked in the oilfield and in construction, where he was known for his strong work ethic and his ability to find practical, efficient ways to get the job done. He approached his work with capability and quiet pride.

He had a lifelong love of sports, especially hockey. As a young player, he was a strong team contributor, recording his first goal along with 24 assists in one season—showing his natural ability to support and elevate those around him. In high school, Riley earned a Most Valuable Player award in football, a recognition of both his athletic ability and his value to his team.

Riley will be remembered for his quick wit and unforgettable sense of humour. He had a way of delivering jokes with a straight face that left people both confused and laughing. He also had a sharp ability to read people and wasn’t afraid to stand up for what he believed was right.

He was a loyal friend, especially to Dan and Colton Hodges, and maintained close, meaningful relationships with those he trusted.

In recent years, Riley showed strength and determination in working toward personal change. He was actively involved in recovery, attending AA meetings, and had achieved five months of sobriety. During this time, he expressed a desire to help others and, in his journal, had set a goal of becoming a social worker for children.

Riley’s kindness, compassion, and sensitivity were deeply felt by those closest to him. He will be remembered for the love he gave and the effort he made to become a better man.
